Many of us try to avoid the mad crush of Black Friday Christmas sales, and instead find that perfect gift at the small shops that can be found locally. When we support a local merchant, they can afford to hire a local plumber, shop at the local stores, and pay property taxes that support the local schools.
Here’s an idea. How about shopping very locally? As in, what great gift ideas can you find right here in the Cobblestone? Since I don’t have my mother’s shopping gene, I’m sure I will miss a bunch of good ones, but there are plenty of opportunities right here under that big old clock. Come on down and find your own.
Guys Solutions. We need it easy and quick. How’s this?
Gift Certificates always work. You give money, they get the gift of yoga at Tahoe Yoga Institute, a haircut at Bella Vita, or a round of brews at Tahoe Mountain Brewery.
Or walk into Lather and Fizz. The place is warm and smells really good. They have gift packs with all sorts of locally, handmade products that will definitely suit everyone on your list.
You can find unique clothing items at My Other Closet-A consignment boutique, or peruse the tons of lightly used and new ski gear and clothing at NUTS (New and Used Tahoe Sports). Looking for top of the line jeans? Stop by the Kalifornia Jean Bar. And if you want something that says Tahoe on it, whether it is a piece of clothing or just about anything else you can think of, go to Tahoe T-Shirtery.
Know a bike fanatic? Find them something useful at Gravity underneath the Clocktower. Got kids? Ruffles and Ruffnecks has really cute kids clothing and toys, or better yet, get ‘em a book. Next door is the Trunk Show, where local artists show their wares…how about a bowl made from an old record album or a shirt that says YoPlaya? Wait, don’t give up yet, keep going you can do this. Pablo’s has Tahoe photos and artwork. Bluestone Jewelry has those really cool Lake Tahoe pendants that everybody loves, and From Here and There shows off some incredible wood furniture from Argentina.
Congrats. All your shopping is done. Now you are ready to settle down to a glass of wine at Uncorked…I mean, buy a present of a nice bottle of wine for a “friend” at Uncorked.
And have yourself a merry little Christmas!
