The Cobblestone Blog!

The goal of this blog will be to keep you up to date on what is going on at The Cobblestone, whether it is an event about to happen such as Octoberfest, or what a new business will be offering. And since The Cobblestone is right smack in the middle of Tahoe City, I will also be expounding on all things Tahoe City, the little and big things that make our town pretty dang special.
Before I get started, I should probably give a bit of my Cobblestone history. Don’t worry, it will be the short version. My first Cobblestone experience was in the mid 1960s when the then seven Hausermans lived cozily in a small house behind where the Cobblestone now exists. My parents ran the Lake Chalet Motel for two years before moving the house and motel off the property in 1966 (The Lake Chalet Apartments now sit on Granlibakken Road across from the Tahoe Tree Company, and the house, remodeled and enlarged is just around the corner in Comstock Acres) and began building The Cobblestone. By high school I worked at The Cobblestone, acting as what my Dad said with a grin was the Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds. Which meant watering the flowers (no automatic sprinklers), picking up the litter, weeding the planters and flirting with the cute girls who worked in the clothing stores.
Later, for twenty years, I deftly attempted to avoid the worst bird pooping spots while parking my car in the back parking lot, and walked to my job at what was first known as Coldwell Banker Hauserman Real Estate, and then later as Coldwell Banker. In 2008 writing called me and I changed careers…but I still can’t leave the Cobblestone. Now I am excited with this opportunity to start writing about it.
Speaking of writing. I wrote the official guidebook to the Tahoe Rim Trail, as well as Cross-Country Skiing in the Sierra Nevada and Monsters in the Woods: Backpacking with Children. I write frequently for a variety of local and regional publications and several other blogs including Hauserman Rental Group and Sunnyside Lodge. I write a regular column for Moonshine Ink called Growing up in Tahoe, and last year I wrote a piece on the building of The Cobblestone. Check it out:’s-first-shopping-center
I will be pining here on a regular basis…next up…I can already smell the brats…
